Tour Description

A journey through the communist history of Romania is a must do in Bucharest, the place of rise and fall of the well known dictator Ceausescu.

The tour will start in front of Ceausescu’s greatest dream: the Palace of Parliament, second largest administrative building in the world, but only to have an introduction on how communism started and flourished in the beginning.

Afterwards, we will visit the ruins of the Uranus neighborhood that was demolished in order to build the new civic center.

Also churches (Saint Antim Monastery and Mihai Voda Church) that were moved in an innovative way in a desperate attempt of architects and engineers to save them from being sent into oblivion.

Passing by the sad ruins of nationalized buildings, we will also see houses that barely escaped from being demolished on Justice Street.

After that, we will cross on the other side of Dambovita, but not before learning what a huge influence Ceausescu had on its course.

Our next stops will be related to the Romanian Revolution: traces of bullets, the place where the revolution started, the place where Ceausescu had his last speech, the Memorial of Rebirth, but also one of the headquarters of the former Secret Police (Securitate).

The Communist Bucharest Tour will end in the University Square where all the crosses show the sacrifices of the people that died for freedom during the Revolution and you will also be introduced in the post-communist history.
